When is my baby ready for the 21-Days To Solids Plan?
Before you start introducing solid foods, make sure your baby is ready. This means: “Watch the Baby – Not the Calendar” as one baby might seem to be ready at four months, while another might not be ready until six months. Generally your baby is indicating readiness for solid foods if he or she is:
· At least four months (17 weeks) old and has doubled birth weight
· Able to sit and hold head up unassisted - this is important to ensure your baby can swallow food
· Has good hand–eye coordination so he/she can look at food, pick it up and put it in his own mouth
· Has lost the 'tongue thrust reflex' and can keep solid food in mouth and swallow it (not push it out with the tongue)
· Do not delay introduction to solids beyond six months as this can be harmful for future development
When is my baby ready to join Little Foodie Club's meal plans?
We recommend starting your baby on Little Foodie Club's 6-9 month meal plan after initial transitioning to solids has taken place and your baby is accustomed to eating solid foods and ready for combinations rather than single ingredients.
If I sign up to a subscription meal plan, I am locked in?
You will receive one delivery per month and can skip or cancel any time, as long as you give us notice before your monthly payment has been processed.
How can I tell if my baby can handle more textured foods?
Babies are typically ready for chunkier solid foods when they are approximately nine months old. To handle these more advanced foods, your baby needs to be able to sit well unassisted. The mouth skills required to accept and handle chunks well are reliant on steadiness and coordination of the body. When babies sit well, it is a sign that they have the physical ability to learn new skills with their mouths.
What if my child has food allergies?
Our purées are free of nuts, eggs and soy but some include gluten and coconut. With every subscription we require information on any allergies your child may have. We will accommodate special dietary needs as best as we can. Always consult your pediatrician if you are concerned about allergies.
Is Little Foodie Club baby food organic?
We're not certified organic but all of our ingredients are. If it's not available organic, we don't use it.
Is your packaging baby safe?
All of our packaging is USDA certified food grade and freezer safe. It is 100% BPA-free, non-toxic, phthalates-free, and bisphenol-a-free.
Do you offer vegetarian or vegan meal plans?
We offer a rotating menu of 12 flavors a month, including four vegetable-, four fruit-, and four protein-based purees, which include both meat and fish. Our goal is to develop babies' palates and take care of their nutritional needs and meat and fish supply babies with much needed iron, vitamin B12, zinc, protein and calcium. However, vegetarian or vegan plans are available upon request. Simply let us know what you need and we will work with you!
Why can't I buy single pots of food?
Little Foodie Club is a journey - by signing up to our subscription plans your baby will be exposed to a curated meal plan that has been carefully developed to include an evolving variety of flavors, tastes, textures and ingredients that will expand his palate and impact his ability to eat healthily and try new foods in the future. We don't offer single pots because each recipe forms part of a bigger meal plan.
Why is your food frozen and not fresh?
We thought long and hard about this and came to the conclusion that frozen is best for a number of reasons. Here are three of them:
Quality: We flash freeze our purées immediately after cooking locking in all of the freshness, nutrients and flavor so there is no negative impact on the quality of the food whatsoever.
Safety: Los Angeles is a hot city and we don’t want to take any chances on our food being exposed to temperature abuse.
Convenience: By receiving the food frozen, we leave it up to you whether you want to feed it to your baby immediately or save it for a later day. In the freezer, our purées last up to three months, once defrosted they're good for three days.
Where and how is Little Foodie Club's food produced?
All our food is handmade fresh from scratch in a commercial kitchen facility in compliance with the highest possible health and safety standards and health and safety are our top priority. All of the ingredients used to make our baby purées are USDA certified organic. We do not use any artificial ingredients, colorings, additives or preservatives and our purées are free of sugar and salt.
What if my baby doesn’t like the food?
It is completely normal for babies to reject certain (or all) foods at first - this is called neophobia. The most important thing for you as a parent is not to give up and keep trying. Experts suggest that it takes babies up to 15 times of trying something to decide if they like it or not so keep at it! Also, try not to allow meal times to stress you out. If your baby gets the feeling that you’re tense, she may get more anxious and less interested in eating. Keep the tone as light as possible and do what you can to make eating a fun part of your baby’s day.
If my baby gets used Little Foodie Club's flavorsome foods will he reject simpler foods?
Little Foodie Club is not about 'gourmet' baby food. It's about exposing babies to a varied diet of ingredients, tastes and textures to broaden their palates. We are here to help you bring variety and fun into your baby's mealtime routine but not to create food snobs.
